Lately, I’ve been really drawn to celebrating things more intentionally. Smaller guest lists, meaningful settings, nights that feel special without trying too hard.
That’s exactly what this one was.
We celebrated my friend Jessica’s 24th birthday at Black + Blue, and it ended up being one of those nights you wish you could bottle up — not because it was over-the-top, but because everything just felt right.
From the moment we walked in, the space immediately set the tone. Elevated but calm. Refined without feeling stiff. Subtle gold accents, rich textures, and lighting that made everything feel warm and intimate. Nothing was screaming for attention — it just quietly impressed.

What I really loved was how thoughtfully the space was used. There’s additional dining upstairs, which gives the restaurant a sense of depth, but we were lucky enough to be seated in a private room. That alone changed the energy of the night. It felt cozy, personal, and almost surreal — like we were tucked away in our own little world for the evening.

The theme was 24K gold. Everyone wore white, and the birthday girl wore gold — simple, elegant, and perfectly aligned with the space. It didn’t feel like a “theme” so much as a detail that naturally tied everything together.
There was laughter, overlapping conversations, and that comforting feeling of being fully present. No rushing. No distractions. Just a really good night spent with people Jessica loves, celebrating her in a way that felt true to who she is.
Jessica ordered a mix of dishes for the table, which I loved — sharing always makes a night feel more relaxed and communal.
We started with the seafood tower, which was such a moment when it arrived. It was beautifully presented and stacked with fresh lobster, crab, oysters, clams, and shrimp cocktail. Everything tasted clean and briny in the best way — fresh, chilled, and indulgent without feeling heavy. The kind of starter that instantly sets the tone for a celebratory night.

The crab cakes were rich and flavorful, with a delicate texture that didn’t feel dense or overpowering. The beet salad was light, slightly sweet, and refreshing — the perfect contrast to the richness of the rest of the table.

For mains, we went classic with steaks and sides. Everything was cooked exactly how you’d hope — tender, well-seasoned, and satisfying without being excessive. Nothing felt overworked or overly complicated, just really solid, confident food.
One of my favorite bites of the entire night was the fried mac & cheese paired with mashed potatoes. It sounds so simple, almost forgettable on paper — but it was anything but. Crispy on the outside, soft and comforting on the inside, and somehow still refined. A reminder that when something is done properly, it doesn’t need to be flashy to stand out.
At some point during the night, I ordered a cocktail called The Financial Advisor, and it absolutely deserved a moment of its own.
It arrived with a bubbly, smoky presentation that popped right at the table — playful, dramatic, and honestly so fun. The drink itself was smooth, balanced, and not overly sweet. Made with Casamigos Blanco tequila, Cointreau, lime, vanilla clove passionfruit champagne syrup, it was refreshing with just enough warmth and depth to keep it interesting.
The kind of drink you sip slowly between conversations — equal parts celebratory and comforting.
Jessica is one of my oldest friends — and the first friend, as an adult, that I knew I wanted to keep around forever.

She’s authentic, classy, and genuinely full of love. But more than that, she was the first person who truly believed in me and my ideas. When I was 18, she supported my thoughts, my questions, and my early curiosity about building something of my own. That encouragement planted the seed for my interest in entrepreneurship and developing my skills — and in so many ways, I wouldn’t be where I am today without her constant belief in me.
This night felt like a reflection of who she is: thoughtful, elegant, and deeply rooted in meaningful connection.
This wasn’t about being seen or doing the most. It was about celebrating someone who has played such an important role in my life, in a space that allowed the night to unfold naturally.
Black + Blue was the backdrop — a beautiful one — but the real highlight was the feeling of the night itself. Intimate. Thoughtful. Easy.
Those are the moments I’m trying to create more of lately 🤍
